Pele vs Maradona vs Platini

Thank the lord for the skills of Diego Armando Maradona…..not only for his sublime shimmering once- in- a- lifetime talent he shared with us during his halcyon playing days. But also for the fantastic ability he has answering questions during a press conference. During the FIFA World Cup in South Africa not only have his side sparkled on the pitch but he has provided some wonderfully colourful responses to some probing questions from journalists. While other managers dole out the same bland, dull, answers without ever wanting to court controversy or hurt anyones feelings our Diego just says it as he sees it. Though this time you could argue that it was Pele who initiated the quarrel as just a week ago Pele was quoted in the Brazilian press as suggesting that Argentina’s appointment of Maradona was a mistake and that the former superstar only took the job because he needed the money.

“I’m not surprised, Pele should go back to the museum,” was Maradona’s retort before he also took a pop at former France star Platini, who a few months ago had insinuated that Maradona was a great player but not a great coach. “As for Platini, I’m not surprised because I always had a distant relationship with him, we would just say hi and goodbye,” he said. “But we know what the French are like and Platini is French, he believes he’s better than the rest of us.”
